One great truth you will have to embrace is God called you knowing your weaknesses, frailty and addiction. It all plays in the narrative bringing us to a new you. That new you must have a new mind because thinking the old way will only have you living your old life. Restoration begins on the inside first, maybe not all at once. Being renewed on the outside starts on the inside. Religious people have it all wrong, they judge an unrighteous judgement because they judge as Samuel did when anointing the next king, on the outside. Change happens on the inside and overflows into your outer world. The great thing is no matter how your inner or outer world is God is all powerful and He has you!
I am excited for you because the more messed up your life is the greater glory God will get for putting it all back together and making it better than before. That is God’s MO, He takes messy things and creates a message. Take Moses in the book of Exodus for example. This dude was raised as a king’s kid, finest threads, Mercedes chariot and gourmet food. He was educated at the Harvard of the day and had a bright future. His anger got the best of him and he kills a man then buries him in the sand. Hiding his sin but then he is found out. He runs like a fugitive landing a job taking care of sheep, which he was raised being taught that a shepherd was an abomination! So, an abomination is a thing that causes disgust with hatred attached. Moses had not just went to the bottom, he was below the bucket.
How could God change this? What plan did God have to restore this man that put himself in this place. Why would God not give up on him? The simple answer is you do not give up on what you love. A person, a marriage, a dream or a child, you fight till you win. God appeared to Moses on holy ground, his unholy action brought him to holiness. Here he is a murder in front of a miracle. A burning bush and God speaking to him. Moses is given an assignment at the fire! You see fire will lead you to your assignment, more on that latter.
